Australian and South African producers were never as successful as they wanted to be in selling their wines back to Britain. British importers who specialized in wines from Australia and South Africa thought that this was a kind of gap in the market. Importers had to maintain close relationships with producers in Australia to the extent that they could, given that they were you know 12,000 nautical miles apart. imperial sentiment was really important in promoting advertising and ultimately selling wines from British colonies.
