The Role of Police in a Mental Health Crisis
The policy in New York allows police or city officials. Hospital workers could also qualify under that, but realistically when you think about who is going to encounter folks living on the street folks with mental illness,. it is more likely that it's going to be law enforcement officers than it is medical staff or other city officials. In 2019 one in five fatal police shooting so where a police officer shoots someone involved a person with mental illness.
