Lead poisoning affects developing brains in ways that can lead to aggression and impulsivity and impaired executive functions. Lead is similar chemically to calcium because it displaces the calcium needed for normal brain development. The age of the earth has stood the test of time like that's a pretty darned good estimate. And why were we chatting about like a tarry and lead toxicity in the same episode? Because of something called the lead violence hypothesis.
