The Importance of Feeling It in Therapy
To feel it, I have to be aware that something's happening. That isn't always easy. We're afraid of intense emotion so that we don't want to experience it. To name it, then to be able to say, I'm feeling sorrow. I'm feeling angry,. I'm feeling agitated or lost or confused. The relational component is significant. You can still be relational in it in prayer. In journaling. Journal to someone because it becomes now relational and way to do it. And now my brain's going off with all these practical ideas. Maybe an analogy we can use is let's how a young child processes emotion and then how an adult process emotions.
