The New Ideals of Motherhood
There's a new ideal of what a good mother is, but it's extremely limited in the number of women who somehow abide to this rem ideal. The other thing is that there's a new anxiety, or maybe it's not new, but it becomes very clearly a a real anxiety, a very strong one in the colonial period. And also, of course, moternal mortality is a huge problem in the way people themselves experience it. Which is, in my opinion, one of the reasons why by medicine a was quite popular. There was fear, but still, it was popular.
