There is a parallel back to 19 80 when the soviets were massing troops on the polish border, and it looked as if there was an imminent invasion of poland. At that time, they stepped back because of western resolve and unity. Of course, now the shoe is on the other foot, and we have to deal with the consequences. But at the very least you do sound a note of optimism in terms of western unity having improve ed since the annexation of crimea. And there are lessons there to be learnt, i am sure, that apply just as well to the indo pacific to the asian region. So, no doubt, a pivotal moment in world history,
