The Importance of Longing
Gatsby spends his entire life longing for Daisy, not only to return to their early idyllic days of love. And then the novel is really about how our longing can be a bad guide because we readers see the emptiness and the moral corruption of that perfect life he romanticizes. So our longing can feel so powerfully true, but it's also a story to decode and question since it is one part fiction.
