The History of the Atom
Atoms are comprised almost entirely of empty space. A tiny central nucleus containing almost all the mass is surrounded by a sparse cloud of electrons. If you imagine like a jungle gym full of metal bars all connected to each other, if you're close up to one of those it looks fairly sparse - most of it's empty space.
