Samuel colt was a huckster who claimed to have invented the rotating cylinder. But historians now say most of his ideas were bunk up. And he didn't really do that for the most part, as most of his stuff was still very much hand made. There was a tendency for successful american manufacturers to exaggerate the extent to which they had succeeded in creating a functioning assembly line.
