Is There Such a Thing as an Idea?
Edison was a tinkerer who would, you know, chip away at something until he made progress. He wasn't the innovator of how a light bulb would work or what it would be. His discovery is the filament which goes inside the light bulb that makes it a commercially viable technology. "An idea is one percent inspiration, 99 percent perspiration," Edison once said.
