If you're a runner, I would definitely advocate for aiming more towards that one gram of protein per pound of body weight. There is an amino acid pool in your body where you can basically store a certain amount of the amino acids that you consume each day via protein but it's pretty limited. So ideally, if you actually want to use the protein primarily for building new proteins, what you would do is you would take whatever that amount.
