The John Manicier Case and the Media Insider's View

I wrote recently about the John Manicier case. That was where, just with people who don't know, he basically fabricated an interview and it turned out that there was more than that. We subsequently as a result of an audit found other stories and fear facts which had been fabricated by others in our newsroom. So a terribly sad case, bad that it hadn't been picked up earlier. But I think the point I was trying to make is that you can have all the checks and balances in place in any newsroom or organization but they're still going to lead to issues. It's not fail safe when you're dealing with human behavior.
