i really like to run even races and try for a strong negative split. You should probably never go out conservatively in an 800, you're going to improve by learning all the nuances of this skill. I think i'm what you're saying bt the regular racesof five, whatever kind of distance,. is that you get that mental practice not being dragged too fast by someone who thinks is a competitor. Im having to force yourself to slok, to maintain the right pace. And then, as you say, be able to surge when you need to and compete with someone better.
