Open source is basically this idea that you write code upload it to github and then any developer can clone that code downloaded themselves change it as they want. It's very hard to falsify the open source claims unless you have a rigorous understanding of the questions on the evals. Even just benchmarking these models because they're so non-deterministic is actually quite hard to do. The technology industry is kind of I don't know approaching the crisis of identity yeah.
