The Disappointment of Hope
The passion of hope is emotion toward a future attainable but difficult good. The mountain climber hopes to climb the difficult ascent, but recognizes that any number of things could prevent success. Once the mountain has been conquered, the difficult aspect of it is gone. His hope ceases and is replaced by pleasure or joy.
