Venus - A Warm, Wet World

Fiction writers had these ideas that Venus was this warm, wet world. The first studies that really started to look at its surface used radar in 1961. But then that whole nice rocky planet sort of became hellish rocky planet when the very first spacecraft to get there successfully got there actually 50 years ago this year.
