The Battle of Attica
The Peloponnesian army had arrived at the doorstep of Athens in May. They began to ravage the Attic countryside, cutting down grain crops and damaging trees. Many Athenians held out hope that they would withdraw quickly without war. But when they began to lay waste to a Carnae - which sat less than seven miles from the Acropolis - everyone was outraged.
