The Endowed Progress Effect

One group had a punch card with 10 with two free starters and the other group had a card with eight no free starters. The people that didn't get anything to start even though they needed the same number of punches they didn't come back as often. This is what the researchers call the endowed progress effect were more likely to try harder and longer to reach a goal if we think we're started progress towards it. And perhaps unsurprisingly tying this back to video games they do this all the time with quest logs and these other markers of competence.
