Do Sleep Medications Change the Architecture of Sleep?

Sleep medications change the architecture of sleep. They don't seem to give you the depth of deep sleep that you would normally get. And they may also reduce the amount of ide movement sleep that you get. The brain is not showing patterns of normal waking electrical activity. It's a different pattern of electrical activity. There isn't the nice, nice, nice plasticity that helps the brain with learning and memory. One study by a doctor in Italy found that rats who took these drugs were able to re-wire their brains after being given them for hours at a time.
