There was a theory that the Ruby slippers were actually a fake pair. The museum director, John Kels, she said, quote, everyone knew we didn't have any security staff. A lot of people thought that the theft was pulled off by teenagers who were just trying to pull a prank and then they panicked and threw the slippers away.
