The Second French Empire

Napoleon secured the transfer of lombardy to the kingdom of piedmont. In exchange for their help, the french got savoy and nice in 18 60. This then, was the peak of the second empire. But by now, an eclectic opposition had formed inside of france. A lot of catholics were now angry at his support of the pope's enemies in italy. And freemarket policies ticked off business owners who now had to compete directly with british imports.
