Is There a China Model of Development in Africa?

John McCauley and Xiao Nan Wang are co-authors of two papers on China's investment in Africa. They want to know whether because China does something economically, it has the impact that the rest of the world thinks it might have. The underlying question really is one of influence, right? How does China gain influence abroad? There's tremendous amount of attention to that particularly in the US. But I think that the question of how a country gains influence is very complicated.
