Christmas in indigenous context is, you know, it's a winter feast. There's a lot of gift giving and exchange going on. Indigenous nations across up and down the Northwest coast find Christmas a great affordance for practicing their own traditions. The Canadian government outlawed any kind of feasting in which exchange of money or exchange of gifts takes place through the Indian Act.
