I think there's a fear for new pagans if you're new to the path and you're like well I don't really want to work with deity at all. Or you know if you'll scare yourself, that's why people think witches are scary. The connection to the divine is the connection to deity. It makes your life richer it makes your relationships better. To not buy into the secular view of many deities. Apollo has a darker version of himself the black son. And the Apollo I worked with had he wore a black sun mask, and it was laced in gold it was beautiful. But I also find that that some deities will come and go.
