The Bitcoin network is and forever will be a rounding error as far as global energy consumption is concerned. Its energy usage won't exceed its long run utility, however high or low that utility ends up being. If Bitcoin did indeed have serious energy scaling problems, it would eventually fail against competitors in the private marketplace.
