The Discourse on AI PhDs

I remember this document from MIT that went around some time ago about how students who wanted to do a PhD in natural language processing were expected to have a strong background and things like linguistics, among other subjects. And today, it seems very similar. A lot of people who are going into AI PhDs have the computer science math background. That seems to be the vast majority of it. It does seem like there's an overwhelming, you need to be prepared with your linear algebra, et cetera, etc.
