The Future of Human Intelligence

Homo sapiens are the only intelligent species that is doing anything remarkable on this planet. Other animals do smart things but none can even come close to our capacity to tackle abstract open ended problems. So what I want to consider is whether we will be able to leverage our growing knowledge of genetics to uplift other animal species. That means to help them presumably genetically to have much higher levels of intelligence. The idea is that as we better understand genetics we'll be able to tweak the circuitry to optimize things. Could we crack the code and give intelligence to our animal cousins?
