The Importance of Staying Cool in Prison
"I'm not now known as very level-headed you know i keep my cool because i've kind of learned to do that yeah but here in prison we have all sorts of personalities," she says. "One of the worst happened to move in next door to me and uh look i'm programmer man i i like getting out to my programs on time." She was upset when a prisoner held up his tray so he didn't release his food, which meant it could be used as a weapon.
In this podcast, I had the rare opportunity to interview three men in Level 4 maximum security at Kern Valley State Prison. There was no time to do homework on any of them, so I crossed my fingers and jumped in. It was incredibly nerve-wracking and, ultimately, incredibly rewarding and fun. Any expectations I might have had going in were exceeded.
