Why Did Joseph Smith Break a Lamp in the Market Square?
Joseph Smith deliberately broke two gas lamps in the Market Square of Warwick, England. He said he had no food for some time and wanted to get a meal before going to jail. The magistrate's weren't terribly sympathetic to that so they sentenced him to three months' hard labor. It shows you what poverty was like in Warwick for people who were desperate for food.
