What You Mean About Screening?
In the last few weeks we've had newspaper stories about blood tests that will detect 50 different types of cancer sort of early on. Just your heart sinks. That sounds wonderful if there's a test that's, but dear God, the risks,. The negative impacts that this can have are pretty well all of which will rebound on general practice. You're pretty sure of that. We need to avoid the mass enthusiasm of an industry that one day, way in the future, we may have Star Trek type machines that can genuinely pick up stuff that matters. At the moment we're more at risk of picking up stuff that doesn't matter and worrying people about it.
