Saint George Is the Patron Saint of England
The late fifteenth, sixteenth centuries with the tudors. They seem to go mad for saint george. This seems to be a zenith in saint george's time in england. So he is brought in to rei force, a pre existing idea. And i think it's because he was a politically incredibly useful figure. He supports england. His link to the virgin mary seems to be part of that as well.
