There was this moment of possibility in the 60s when people were sharing computers. Bill Gates wrote a letter to computer hobbyist publications saying stop ripping off by operating system that he had bought the rights to, but hadn't written it himself. He'd paid pay ended up being in a place to license it sort of like Steve Jobs had licensed his buddy Wozniak's programming for breakout and then made more money with it. They were asserting the value of their own business cleverness to this industry.
