The Purpose of Asceticism

Overcoming self is a, I mean, that really is the primary objective in the spiritual life. It's like once you, once you overcome self, then you're able to actually enter into this level of contemplation with the Lord. But we, if we don't habituate ourselves to being able to do that, we can't receive them. And so this is what a leisurely man is, right? Is a man of receptivity, of receiving the grace of killing pride and realizing that I'm not the one doing this, that I have to rely on our Lord.
