The Connetes of Reason
Spinoza said that reason demands that everyone love himself seek his own advantage. He called this an organism's connetes, which he defines in various ways at various times as a tendency, force and power of acting. Every organism strives to increase its connetes - it is simply that each thing as far as it can by its own power tries to stay in existence. Because of our connetes we have a desire for things that increase our well-being,. food, sex, love, shelter, good ideas and an aversion to those things that decrease it.
