Philo's Ethics in the Pentateuch
Philosophy was the source of all philosophy, but moses wasn't its only teacher. Philo admires hellenic philosophers who champion rationality and virtue over pleasure. His ideas had such reception by christian church fathers that they became an ecumenical text. He often presented his philosophy in the form of a religious belief. But he was neither jewish nor christian; it's not clear if this is still true today. Next time we'll be looking at an author who wears religion on his sleeve.
