How Do You Interpret Sound?

Roughness is the rate at which the loudness of a sound changes. Roughness actually correlates very precisely with interpreting a sound as alarming or scary. You have to learn to think like you're sitting on a wave form that's going forward. Imagine speech is like an oscillating wave form. An imagine yourself sitting on that and just kind of going up and down. And it's the specifics of how that roller coster of a wave is organized that actually is at the basis of how you interpret sound.
