The New Testament Is Not Using the Word God
There are no passages in which the apostles take it to the Jews and correct them that their monotheism is too simple or too simplistic. The things that were controversial were Jesus' Messiah's ship and the Gentiles and the law. You do see controversies about those. So what you have in the New Testament are affirmations not only that the Father is God but that Christ is God and that the Holy Spirit is God.
