The Anthropocene Pessimism

The term anthropocene, which is very common in the humanities and social sciences right now, originally it's a geological term. It suggests that we're in a new phase of the history of the planet where the most important force shaping the planet is humanity. That idea really turns upside down a lot of our usual assumptions about our role in the world and our place in nature. We are now bigger than nature and nature depends on us instead of us depending on it.
