Calcium: A Controversial Supplement

The body only absorbs a certain fraction of what you take in, whether it's a supplement or in food. About 20% is the typical absorption rate of calcium. It helps the digestive tract, the colon participate in oxalate removal from the body. If your kidneys are worn out from these high oxalate world we're in, it's really advantageous to the body to let the colon help out and the calcium is there as a binder.
