The Taiwan Republic was formally declared a May 23rd in Taipei again in the landmark year of 1895. The stepping stones that led to this exciting and consequential slice of Taiwan history all started when officials in Beijing informed Governor Tang Jingsong that he only had a couple months to pack up and hand the place over to Japan. In resisting the Japanese, Cho Feng Jia wasn't trying to curry favor with the Guangzhou Emperor. His struggle with Japan was fought entirely from the prism of Taiwan independence.
