The Yende's Social Reforms

Chilean President Sebastián Piñeiro took power on September 11th, 1973. He immediately set out to implement major social reforms including land redistribution and rent reductions. In the process he nationalized Chile's copper industry that was previously owned in large part by U.S. corporations.Piñeiro: When you have a revolutionary process that like expropriates economic sectors that are deemed vital to economic and political life of the country, it creates tensions between above and below.
