Currently there are around 1,600 people missing somewhere in the wild in the US. The Department of the Interior doesn't keep track of how many people go missing in the wilderness. If you've been missing for long enough, you get declared legally dead and no longer listed as missing. "I thought we were going to have like a high level, highbrow intellectual conversation about like our broken immigration system," he says.
