Calcidonian Christology Presupposes Various Principles of Classical Metaphysics
In the second half of this essay I'd like to argue for the following thesis. Calcidonian Christology presupposes and inevitably makes use of various principles of classical metaphysics. In particular the notions of human nature and of pure nature are necessary for a coherent Christology. This is true in Christ's own human knowledge and freedom which are reflective in turn of his uncreated divine life, his eternal natural wisdom and love as God. The mystery of what it means to be human is only ultimately resolvable by reference to Christ.
