Scientists identified 31 art students from the School of Art Institute of Chicago and those students were tasked with creating still life drawings. Judges, who were not privy to the participants' creative processes, consistently identified the students who engaged in problem finding as producing drawings of greater artistic merit. The disparity between the two groups yielded striking results.
