The Impact of Hollywood on the Computer Science Industry
There is a fascinating anecdote in your book about how in the early eighties, the percentage of computer science stuents who were women was rising. Then there were a series of movies that came out that sort of glamorized young male computer science nerves and things like real genius. Cut to ten years later, and the percentage of women who are computer science people has dropped to 17%. So most people in this world believe that the impact of what was out there in the media did matter and did contribute to these numbers reversing.
