The Problem With Opioid Use in Geriatric Patients
Gaba Penton accumulates and we see altered mental status all the time from that drug, so kind of traditional maximum doses, 300 milligrams a day. And then baclophin causes all kinds of unusual central nervous system abnormalities in dialysis patients can imitate a stroke. Avoid completely. I've seen patients get toxic and baclophins after a single dose. The opioids, we had this great curbsiders episode last year from Neff madness about pain control and CKD. But the long and short of that is avoid the natural opioids and use the semi synthetics.
