The tanks were penned in by soviet land mines, traps and wire. They had to follow little trails that had been left open on purpose. Tits is seemingly something nobody ever thought of while they were being led down them. At this point, the germans had walked into a 15 mile deep kill zone with nowhere to go. That's why they attacked the town five different times, and on the seventh they gained nothing more but dead soldiers.
