The Resistance of African Theater in the Colonial Era

Senegalese theater is in the process of kind of forming itself and creating itself, says Frank O'Mara. They're resisting these forms by using their roles as actors to push back against them; it's a tension that can't be resolved with colonialist ideas about African identity. And this is part of a broader discourse as well on Francophone African theater in general: why are they still so French? It almost seems to some people that in Francophone Africa, people have been less creative with the form itself.
