Hawking's No Boundary Proposal
Hawking was always looking for the very simplest way to explain anything. And his no boundary proposal is an extremely beautiful idea. But when you calculate it in detail as we did, this would be three or four years ago, we found it is mathematically inconsistent. So now Hawking to his great credit was open to the criticism.
