Shiitake mushrooms in nature grow on decomposing logs and leaf matter. Agaricus by Sporus is grown on offcuts from growing wings, corn cobs or sugar cane mulch. They help decompose those waste streams to be turned into soil. 38.5% of the world's habitable landmass is devoted to animal agriculture.
